Four CBD Methods: Pros and Cons

Now, you may know of the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD) and what it can do for your health. Finding the right CBD-infused product is the next challenge. Although looking at the product’s label is fine, it is important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the different ways of using CBD.

There are four main methods of using CBD:

  • Applying it to your skin topically
  • Taking it under the tongue (sublingual)
  • Ingesting it using edibles
  • Inhaling it by smoking or vaping it

Topical Creams/Salves

You can choose to use CBD lotions to give you relief from discomfort like muscle soreness, joint pains, and skin problems. CBD-infused skincare is an easy way to incorporate the benefits as a topical product.

Pros

  • The application is easy and time efficient
  • Can help fight anti-aging and inflammation
  • Recommended for sore muscles and chronic pain
  • Even small amounts have an effect

Cons

  • The effect is mild
  • Lasting effects may vary for each person

Sublingual (Under the tongue)

CBD tinctures usually come in a bottle with a dropper cap. You can use the product sublingually by placing a few drops under the tongue and holding it for about 30 seconds. Swallow the rest of the solution afterward. This is a convenient and effective way of using CBD.

Pros

  • You can administer CBD oil sublingually in public easily without drawing attention
  • The effects last long when taken sublingual
  • It is easy to control how much CBD you use
  • It is easy to use and requires no extra tools or accessories

Cons

  • Results may vary for each person

Edibles/Food infused with CBD

CBD is versatile as it can be added to any food or drink. It's an easy way to consume both your food and CBD at the same time. CBD edibles don't have any psychoactive effects. If you enjoy making treats and dishes, you can add CBD to your butter or pasta.Take note that ingesting CBD as an edible may take a while before it kicks in. Also, be careful about eating too much and wait for about 2-4 hours before consuming more.

Pros

  • Long lasting effects
  • You can add it to a wide range of cuisines and beverages
  • It can mask the earthy taste of CBD

Cons

  • Can take about 2-4 hours to take effect
  • Adding the right dose is challenging and requires trial and error

Smoking or Vaping (Inhalation)

Breathing in the vaporized CBD is one of the fastest ways to experience the effect. This is because it does not go through the digestive system and is absorbed into the blood stream straight from the lungs.

Smoking CBD oil

Smoking CBD oil is possible by using special equipment known as an oil rig. It's like a water pipe, and it works by heating the nail or chamber where the CBD oil concentrate is present. Igniting the device produces the smoke you inhale.

Pros

  • Contains the highest concentration of CBD oil
  • It is a fast way to absorb the solution

Cons

  • A high concentration of CBD may be a higher dosage than recommended for each person
  • The purchase an oil rig, dabber, or joint paper is required

Vaping CBD oil

Vaping is getting popular as an alternative to smoking. It requires you to have a vaporizer pen that runs on a battery to help turn CBD oil into vapor.

Pros

  • You can get desirable high concentrated CBD oil
  • It is smoother and less harmful for your throat and lungs
  • Your CBD dosage can be managed easily

Cons

  • A high concentration of CBD may be a higher dosage than recommended for each person
  • You need to purchase extra equipment like vape pens
